Hyperscalers are designing their own AI silicon, and the design partners and foundry behind those chips are collecting the gains
The biggest names in tech have decided that buying AI chips off the shelf isn’t enough. Google, Meta, Amazon, Microsoft, OpenAI, Anthropic and Apple are pouring more money into custom silicon built around their own workloads.
The winners so far aren’t necessarily the companies whose logos go on the chips. Broadcom, Marvell Technology and TSMC are the ones doing the design work and the manufacturing, and the numbers show it.
The picks-and-shovels trade, silicon edition
The chips in question are application-specific integrated circuits, or ASICs. Unlike general-purpose graphics processors, an ASIC is built for one job. A company that runs the same kind of AI task billions of times can get a chip tuned precisely for that task.
Broadcom is the dominant player here. It holds a 60-70% share of the custom AI ASIC design services market as of October 2026.
Its financials match that position. Reported AI semiconductor revenue hit $16.7 billion in fiscal Q3 2026, up 221% year over year.
The pipeline looks just as full. Broadcom carries an estimated backlog of ~$73 billion in AI-related contracts as of October 2026.
Marvell plays a strong second fiddle
The company expects its custom business revenue to exceed $12 billion by fiscal 2029. It projects that figure could reach ~$30 billion by fiscal 2031.
At its Investor Day in October 2026, Marvell went further. It disclosed revenue targets of $70 billion to $90 billion by fiscal 2031.

A big piece of that optimism traces back to Google. Marvell’s partnership with the search giant includes potentially $120 billion in cumulative agreements as of August 2026.
TSMC prints the chips, and the money
TSMC’s revenue grew 53% year over year in August 2026, driven by demand for AI-related wafers.
Why Big Tech is going custom
Custom AI ASIC shipments are projected to grow ~44.6% year over year in 2026.
Custom ASICs are also expected to capture ~27.8% of the AI server market by 2026. That gain comes alongside a projected reduction in Nvidia’s share from around 70%.
What this means for investors and the chip landscape
Broadcom’s appeal rests on scale and visibility. A 60-70% share of design services plus an estimated ~$73 billion backlog gives it an unusually clear view of future revenue. The risk is concentration: a market dominated by a handful of enormous customers means losing even one relationship would sting.
Marvell’s forecasts imply dramatic expansion between now and fiscal 2031, and much of that rests on agreements described as potential rather than locked in.
TSMC’s 53% revenue growth in August 2026 reflects demand across the AI chip spectrum, not just custom designs.
For Nvidia, the projected slide from around 70% of the AI server market is worth watching, though it unfolds inside a market that is growing quickly.
The key signals to track going forward are hyperscaler capital spending plans, any changes to Broadcom’s backlog figure, and whether Marvell’s big agreements convert into booked revenue on schedule. TSMC’s monthly revenue reports also serve as a useful real-time gauge of how much AI silicon is actually being produced.

The Bank of England’s Chief Economist, Huw Pill, has expressed skepticism regarding the market’s anticipation of four interest rate hikes over the coming year. Pill, a member of the Monetary Policy Committee, has been supportive of higher rates, but his recent comments suggest that the market’s expectations may be overly aggressive. The current Bank Rate, held steady at 3.75%, reflects a cautious approach by the majority of the MPC, led by Governor Andrew Bailey, who prefer waiting for clearer signs of inflationary pressures tied to energy prices. Pill’s remarks indicate that even among more hawkish policymakers, the case for multiple rate hikes is contingent on substantial evidence of inflationary developments.
Key Takeaways
Pill’s skepticism appears to suggest a less aggressive rate hike scenario, contrasting with market expectations.
The Bank of England’s cautious stance on rate hikes aligns with Pill’s view, requiring clear evidence of persistent inflation pressures.
Current market pricing, reflecting Pill’s comments, may adjust to a more dovish outlook if inflationary evidence remains inconclusive.
What to Watch
Market participants will be closely monitoring upcoming inflation data and energy price trends, as these will be key indicators influencing the Bank of England’s monetary policy decisions. Governor Andrew Bailey’s future statements and MPC minutes could provide further clarity on the committee’s rate hike strategy. Any shift in rhetoric or data pointing towards sustained inflation could realign market expectations with a more aggressive rate hike path.

Iran-backed Houthi forces have launched missile and drone attacks targeting Saudi Aramco’s headquarters in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. The incident, which saw the Houthis striking an administrative building within the complex, marks a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict between the Yemen-based group and Saudi Arabia. Saudi authorities reported a limited fire at the site but confirmed no fatalities or injuries. Additionally, Saudi air defenses intercepted further missiles and drones aimed at Riyadh, with debris causing injuries to four people in the capital. Despite the heightened tensions, Saudi Aramco stated that its oil production and exports remain unaffected.
Key Takeaways
Market pricing appears consistent with increased likelihood of a Saudi airspace closure as tensions between Houthis and Saudi Arabia escalate.
The November 1 market sees a slight increase to 6.5% YES, indicating marginal adjustment in expectations for immediate closure.
The January 1 market shows a more significant adjustment with YES odds at 16.5%, suggesting potential for longer-term developments affecting airspace decisions.
What to Watch
Observers should monitor official announcements from Saudi authorities, including the Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) and Saudi Air Navigation Services (SANS), which could indicate a formal airspace closure. Further Houthi attacks on key Saudi infrastructure or a direct Saudi military response could lead to increased market pricing for a nationwide closure. Additionally, watch for international responses, particularly from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which may influence market expectations.

A discussion-stage plan would hand liquidity providers most v3 and Infinity fees, route the rest to the treasury, and leave v2's CAKE burn untouched
PancakeSwap wants to give liquidity providers a much bigger slice of the pie. A new discussion-stage proposal would send 88% of trading fees from its v3 and Infinity pools directly to the people supplying the liquidity.
The rest would flow to the protocol treasury. Meanwhile, the CAKE emissions picture is getting leaner too, with the plan framed around a roughly 69% total cut to emissions.
What the proposal actually changes
PancakeSwap’s newer pool designs, v3 and Infinity, use concentrated liquidity. That means LPs can park their capital in specific price ranges instead of spreading it thin across every possible price.
Under the plan, 88% of the fees those pools generate would go to LPs. The remaining share would be directed to the treasury rather than elsewhere in the system.
The older v2 pools are left alone. Their existing fee structure, which includes a mechanism that buys back CAKE and burns it, stays intact.
The emissions side ties back to earlier changes. Tokenomics 3.0, introduced in April 2025, reduced daily CAKE emissions by roughly 44%, from about 40,000 tokens to around 22,500. Factoring in the latest proposal, the cumulative reduction comes to roughly 69%.
It is worth stressing that this is still at the discussion stage. Nothing has been voted through yet.
The deflation scoreboard so far
As of October 2026, the protocol reports a net CAKE supply reduction of roughly 15-16%. Supply has fallen from about 392 million tokens in September 2023 to around 330 million.

The protocol has recorded 37 consecutive months of net burns since September 2023, meaning more CAKE has been destroyed than created every single month in that stretch.
Weekly data from mid-October 2026 points the same direction, with approximately 529,000 CAKE burned in a recent period against lower emissions.
The broader framework behind all this goes by the name “The Kitchen.” Tokenomics 3.0 set a target of around 4% yearly deflation, funded by buybacks drawn from protocol revenue.
On the product side, Infinity has become a serious volume engine. Its pools have logged cumulative trading volume of more than $150 billion.
On some chains, Infinity already hands LPs up to 90% of fees. Robinhood Chain is one example. So the 88% figure for v3 and Infinity is less a radical leap and more a move toward standardizing a generous split across the board.
Background: from farm token to fee machine
PancakeSwap is one of the largest decentralized exchanges operating mainly on BNB Chain. For years, the main lever protocols pulled to attract LPs was token emissions. PancakeSwap’s recent tokenomics overhauls have been an attempt to replace that subsidy with real trading fees.
What this means for LPs, CAKE holders and the treasury
For CAKE holders, cutting emissions reduces new supply hitting the market, which supports the deflationary narrative. Keeping the v2 burn intact preserves at least one direct link between trading activity and token destruction.
Sending the non-LP share of v3 and Infinity fees to the treasury, rather than into buybacks, is a choice worth watching. A treasury can fund development, partnerships, or future burns, but holders will want clarity on how those funds get used.
Lower emissions mean fewer token rewards for LPs, so the higher fee share partly compensates for that lost income. Whether the trade is a net gain for LPs depends heavily on how much volume the pools keep generating.
The key things to watch are the governance discussion itself, any changes to the 88% figure as the community weighs in, and whether a formal vote follows. After that, the real test is whether LP deposits and trading volume in v3 and Infinity pools respond to the new split.
The 37-month net burn streak is the other number to keep an eye on. With v2 still handling the burn, a meaningful shift of volume toward v3 and Infinity could change how quickly CAKE supply shrinks from here.

Standard Chartered (STAN) introduced a crypto trading service for affluent clients in the United Arab Emirates, allowing eligible investors to buy and sell bitcoin BTC $80,849.65 and ether ETH $2,367.10 through their existing bank accounts.
The service will initially be available to clients classified as professional investors, and the London-based lender said it is the first of its kind offered by an international bank in the UAE.
The debut is also a global first for Standard Chartered, according to the bank, because it marks the first time it has offered cryptocurrency trading directly to wealthy clients in any market.
The bank will manage custody and settlement within its own ecosystem using a closed-loop model, it said, meaning clients will not need separate cryptocurrency wallets or third-party trading platforms.
The service brings together Standard Chartered’s wealth and retail banking and corporate and investment banking businesses and operates through Zodia Markets, which is backed by the bank’s SC Ventures unit.
Standard Chartered said it has received licensing approval from Dubai’s Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority(VARA).
The bank introduced institutional bitcoin and ether spot trading through its U.K. arm in July last year and expanded that offering to the UAE on Sept. 3.

The bank says it is the first international lender to offer direct crypto trading in the UAE, linked to clients' existing bank accounts
Standard Chartered now lets wealthy clients in the UAE buy Bitcoin and ether straight from their bank accounts. No separate exchange login. No wiring money to a platform you found through a podcast ad.
The service went live on October 14, 2026. It makes Standard Chartered the first international bank to offer direct digital-asset trading in the UAE, and that matters because it moves crypto from the fringe of a client’s financial life into the same app where they check their mortgage.
How the new service works
Eligible affluent clients can trade BTC and ETH directly through the accounts they already hold with the bank. Standard Chartered describes the setup as a closed-loop model. Money and crypto stay inside the bank’s own system, backed by institutional-grade custody and settlement processes rather than being shuffled out to third parties.
The offering is regulated by Dubai’s Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority, better known as VARA.
Not everyone gets a seat at the table. Clients must meet professional investor criteria, which include thresholds for both investment knowledge and liquid net worth.

On pricing, the solution features spreads of up to 2%, with no additional transaction or custody fees in certain contexts. A spread is the gap between the price you buy at and the price you sell at, so the bank effectively earns its keep in that difference rather than through a stack of line-item charges.
Standard Chartered built the service with Zodia Markets, a firm backed by SC Ventures, the bank’s innovation and investment arm.

A steady build, not a sudden pivot
Its digital-asset custody business was established in September 2024, initially serving institutional clients.
In July 2025, the bank became the first Global Systemically Important Bank, or G-SIB, to offer deliverable spot trading for BTC and ETH in the UK. “Deliverable” is the key word there. Clients receive the actual coins rather than a contract that tracks their price.
Then, on September 3, 2026, Standard Chartered rolled out institutional spot trading in BTC and ETH through its Dubai International Financial Centre entity. That arm is overseen by the Dubai Financial Services Authority, a separate regulator from VARA.
The October wealth-client launch is the logical next rung on the ladder. Custody first, then institutions in London, then institutions in Dubai, and now affluent individuals in the UAE.
What this means for banks, clients, and the UAE
For affluent UAE investors, the most obvious change is convenience. Buying Bitcoin used to mean opening an account at a crypto exchange, passing its checks, and moving funds across. Now the same exposure sits one menu away from a checking account at a global bank.
The trade-off is cost. Spreads of up to 2% are not trivial for frequent traders, and some may still prefer dedicated exchanges for active positions.
For the UAE, the launch fits its broader push to establish itself as a regulated hub for virtual assets. A major international bank choosing to offer direct crypto trading under VARA’s rules is a signal of regulatory maturity.
There are still open questions worth watching. The bank has flagged potential expansion, but it has not said how far beyond professional investors the service might eventually reach, or which other assets could follow BTC and ETH.
For now, Standard Chartered has drawn a clear roadmap: custody in 2024, UK institutional trading in 2025, and Dubai institutional plus wealth-client trading in 2026.
