Circle's stablecoin kept decentralized markets busy on Saturdays and Sundays, when traditional bank transfers sit idle
Banks close for the weekend. Decentralized exchanges apparently never got that memo.
USDC, the dollar-pegged stablecoin issued by Circle, traded $40.2 billion on decentralized exchanges during weekends in the third quarter, according to figures shared on X. All of that activity happened during the days when conventional bank transfers stop moving.
The weekend numbers
The $40.2 billion total covers USDC trading on DEXs across Q3 weekends. These venues match trades through smart contracts instead of brokers or clearinghouses.
Weekend stablecoin transfers could reach up to $38 billion in a single day, a pace that mirrors Visa’s typical daily transaction volume.
Visa’s daily average sits at roughly $40 billion. That makes the comparison less of a flex and more of a benchmark: on-chain dollars are now moving at card-network scale on days when wire desks are dark.
Total DEX trading volume across chains reached approximately $721.7 billion in Q3 2026, with stablecoins such as USDC and USDT accounting for a significant slice of that flow.

Recent 30-day stablecoin DEX volume landed in the $161 billion range.
Where USDC actually goes
Roughly 69% of USDC’s on-chain activity was tied to DEX liquidity provision.

Liquidity provision means depositing tokens into pools that other traders swap against. The depositors earn fees, and the pools keep markets functioning at 3 a.m. on a Sunday.
Another 23% of USDC activity came from flashloans on platforms like Base and Aerodrome. A flashloan lets someone borrow funds and repay them within the same transaction, with no collateral required.
If the loan cannot be repaid by the end of that transaction, the whole thing simply reverses.
USDC’s circulating supply stood at around $74.6 billion by the end of September 2026.
In certain 2026 periods, USDC held approximately 77% of adjusted transfer volume across chains.
Background: a two-horse stablecoin race
The total stablecoin supply during Q3 2026 was estimated between $304 billion and $311 billion. USDT and USDC together controlled approximately 85% of that market.
What this means for traders, Circle and the banks
For Circle, the numbers support the case that USDC is a preferred tool for automated trading and liquidity management. Its strong turnover relative to USDT may make it more attractive to institutional players that value deep, active markets over raw supply figures.
When around 23% of activity comes from flashloans, headline totals can look larger than the amount of new capital actually moving through the system. Bots borrowing and repaying in the same transaction generate real volume, but not necessarily real economic demand. Liquidity provision is a stronger signal, since it reflects capital parked in pools rather than recycled in seconds.
Three things are worth watching next. First, whether USDC’s weekend DEX volume keeps pace as its $74.6 billion supply grows. Second, whether its turnover edge over USDT persists. Third, whether the mix shifts away from flashloans and toward longer-term liquidity.

The XRP-focused treasury company began trading under the ticker XRPN after closing its SPAC merger with Armada Acquisition Corp. II
Evernorth Holdings started its life as a public company on a positive note. Shares of the XRP-focused treasury firm rose 5% on their Nasdaq debut on October 12, 2026, trading under the ticker XRPN.
The debut makes Evernorth what its backers describe as the first dedicated public vehicle built around XRP. Investors who want exposure to the token without dealing with wallets, keys or exchanges now have a stock to buy instead.
A volatile first day of trading
The opening pop was only part of the story. At its intraday high, the stock climbed as much as 13.43% above its starting level.
That enthusiasm cooled as the session went on. Shares ultimately closed about 1.5% higher, a far more modest result than the morning peak suggested.
Evernorth reached the market through a merger with Armada Acquisition Corp. II, a special purpose acquisition company. A SPAC is essentially a shell company that raises money first and finds a business to merge with later, giving that business a faster path to a public listing than a traditional IPO.
The listing was originally slated for October 8 but slipped because of administrative issues. Shareholders eventually signed off on the deal, and the merger closed on October 9. Trading began three days later.
The company has more ceremony ahead. Evernorth plans to ring the Nasdaq closing bell on October 14, 2026.

What Evernorth actually owns
Strip away the stock ticker and Evernorth is mostly a very large pile of XRP. At the close of the merger, the company held approximately 473 million XRP.
At a price of $1.39 per token, that stash was valued at roughly $657 million. The firm also had around $300 million in gross cash proceeds before expenses.
Evernorth says its goal is to increase the amount of XRP backing each share over time, rather than simply sitting on the tokens. To get there, the company plans to lean on several strategies: decentralized finance yield strategies, liquidity management, participation in the XRP ecosystem, and capital markets activity.
The people and money behind it
Evernorth named Hugo Jeandesboz as chief investment officer on the same day the stock began trading. He previously served as co-CIO of Coinbase Asset Management.
The list of backers includes Ripple, Arrington Capital, SBI Group, Pantera Capital, Kraken and GSR.
What this means for investors and the market
The clearest impact is on access. Some investors, including certain funds and retirement accounts, cannot easily hold crypto directly but can buy Nasdaq-listed shares. Public companies have to file financial reports, which gives shareholders a clearer view of holdings than many crypto-native structures provide.
The trade-off is that a stock is not the token. XRPN shares can trade above or below the value of the XRP the company holds. DeFi yield can boost returns, but it introduces smart contract and counterparty exposure that a simple holding strategy avoids.
For now, the key metrics to monitor are straightforward. Watch how XRPN trades relative to the value of its roughly 473 million XRP, how the $300 million in cash gets deployed, and whether Jeandesboz’s team can show measurable progress on the XRP-per-share goal.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that the company’s new Muse Wonder AI model is now on par with top models from OpenAI and Anthropic. This announcement comes as Meta expands its AI infrastructure and paid services, highlighting its push to monetize AI through developer access and subscription options. The Muse Wonder model, developed by Meta Superintelligence Labs, is reportedly capable of matching frontier systems in tasks such as coding and professional work. This marks a significant development for Meta, particularly following the setbacks with its previous Llama 4 model.
Key Takeaways
Meta’s claim suggests the Muse Wonder model is competitive with leading AI models from OpenAI and Anthropic.
Market pricing appears to reflect a moderate decrease in confidence for Anthropic’s model to be ranked best by the end of October 2026.
Current market data indicates Google’s AI model is leading, with a 70.9% YES probability, suggesting strong support for its performance.
What to Watch
Upcoming benchmark updates and leaderboard refreshes could further influence AI model rankings. The competitive landscape remains dynamic, with potential shifts if Meta’s Muse Wonder model achieves independent verification of its claimed capabilities. Key actors, such as Anthropic’s leaders and Google’s AI team, may also respond with strategic announcements that could impact market perceptions.

Bitfinex Securities' tokenized fund offerings could enhance digital asset market accessibility and diversification, impacting global investment strategies.
Bitfinex Securities has opened capital raises for two tokenized funds from CMCC Global, adding dollar and Bitcoin denominated investment strategies to its securities platform.
The offerings cover Crest Fund and the Liberty Bitcoin Accumulation Fund, or LBAF, according to a press release shared with Crypto Briefing. Both funds are being tokenized using Hadron by Tether.
Subscriptions will remain open to eligible investors through October 29, with secondary trading expected to follow once the raises are completed. Bitfinex Securities said the products will be the first tokenized funds of funds issued under El Salvador’s digital asset framework.
CMCC Global co founded the funds with Bitcoin analyst Willy Woo. Crest launched in March 2022, while LBAF launched in April 2025. Both allocate capital across quantitative managers using strategies such as funding rate arbitrage, market making, arbitrage across exchanges and DeFi.

Crest is denominated in dollars and seeks to generate returns above US Treasury bill yields. LBAF measures returns in Bitcoin and targets net annualized returns of 8% to 12%, according to CMCC Global Managing Partner Martin Baumann.
“Both funds use diversified portfolios of quantitative, market-neutral strategies rather than relying principally on the directional performance of digital-asset markets,” Baumann said.
CMCC has previously described LBAF as a strategy for generating Bitcoin denominated yield through quantitative trading. Its return target is measured in Bitcoin rather than dollars.

CREST tokens will be issued at $10 each and LBAF tokens at 0.0001 BTC each. The minimum investment is one token, although participation remains subject to investor eligibility and verification requirements.
The offerings include a six month period following listing during which performance fees will be cut by 50% and redemption fees waived. Those benefits will remain attached to tokens traded on the secondary market for the remainder of the period.
Both funds are structured as segregated portfolios of CMCC Global SPC in the Cayman Islands. The tokens represent economic interests in underlying participating shares held by BFXS (PTC) Limited as trustee.
Tokens will be minted against the underlying shares and burned upon redemption. Transfers will be subject to identity verification and anti money laundering controls. Eligible investors will also be able to hold tokens in approved wallets and trade them around the clock on Bitfinex Securities.
Tether launched Hadron in November 2024 as a platform for issuing and managing tokenized assets, including stocks, bonds and funds. Its tools cover token issuance and burning, compliance and lifecycle management.
The offerings expand Bitfinex Securities’ lineup beyond products such as tokenized debt, Bitcoin hashrate contracts and US Treasury bills. The company said it now lists more than $500 million in assets and recently completed a $50 million capital raise for Alkemya Metacore, its largest to date.

The CFTC-regulated platform's weekly volume has climbed from $60.8 million in early January, driven largely by football markets and parlay-style contracts
Polymarket US traded $2.72 billion in notional volume last week. In early January, that weekly figure was $60.8 million.
That is a jump of more than 44 times in under a year.
The numbers behind the climb
Notional volume measures the total face value of contracts that change hands, not the platform’s revenue or profit.
The week ending in early October 2026 came in at $2.72 billion. The single busiest day came on October 11, 2026, when daily volume peaked at $698.8 million.
The trailing 30-day total also exceeded $11.39 billion as of October 11. That suggests the October spike sits on top of a sustained run, rather than being a single freak weekend.
Another milestone landed in September 2026. That month, Polymarket US reported trading volume surpassing its international platform for the first time.

Football and parlays did the heavy lifting
The growth has largely been attributed to sports markets. NFL and NCAA football contracts in particular have drawn heavy interest as the season got underway.
Polymarket US introduced combo and parlay-style contracts in August 2026, and volume has grown rapidly since.
The broader sector felt the same tailwind. Polymarket and Kalshi combined set a two-day record of $8.56 billion in volume, and a record weekly figure of $22.2 billion was noted around October 11, 2026.
How Polymarket US got here
Polymarket US operates under the oversight of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Its path to that status ran through an acquisition of QCEX, followed by a relaunch in late 2025.
Kalshi remains the dominant player in that segment. Even with a $2.72 billion week, Polymarket US is still chasing market share rather than defending it.

Several explosions were reported in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on October 12, according to Tasnim News. The blasts add to ongoing tensions in the region, with previous incidents linked to Houthi attacks from Yemen targeting Saudi infrastructure. Witnesses have noted activity near King Khalid International Airport, although the exact cause and responsibility for these explosions remain unconfirmed. Historically, such events have been associated with Houthi missile and drone strikes, which have led to significant security concerns and disruptions in Saudi airspace.
Key Takeaways
The report of explosions in Riyadh appears to have increased market concerns about the security of Saudi airspace.
Market pricing suggests there is heightened anticipation of potential airspace closures in response to these developments.
The ongoing pattern of Houthi attacks against Saudi infrastructure is consistent with recent market activity that reflects increased risk.
What to Watch
Observers should monitor announcements from Saudi authorities, particularly the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) and Saudi Air Navigation Services (SANS), for any formal airspace closure notices. Additionally, further confirmation or details about the explosions and any potential Houthi involvement could impact market expectations. Developments that indicate escalating military conflicts or additional strikes are likely to influence market sentiment regarding airspace security.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Oct. 12, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Americans who buy cryptocurrency with cash routinely pay 12% to 15% in fees at Bitcoin ATMs, and 20% or more at some of the largest national operators. Lowest Fee Bitcoin ATMs, a new nationwide operator, today announced the launch of its first 400-plus machines across the United States with a flat 5% fee on every purchase, a network size that makes the company one of the largest Bitcoin ATM operators in the country at launch.
Lowest Fee Bitcoin ATMs Enters U.S. Market With 400+ Machines and a Flat 5% Fee Post this Lowest Fee Bitcoin ATMs Enters U.S. Market With 400+ Machines and a Flat 5% Fee
The machines, installed in convenience stores, gas stations and shopping centers in Florida, California, Arizona, Texas and other states, allow customers to buy Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH) and the dollar-pegged stablecoinsTether (USDT) and USD Coin (USDC) with cash. The fee and exchange rate appear on screen before a customer confirms a purchase, and purchased funds are sent directly to the customer's own digital wallet; the company never holds them. Starting today, first-time customers can also complete their identity verification online in advance, reducing the first visit to a machine to about two minutes.
"Bitcoin ATMs have become one of the most expensive ways to buy anything, and the cost is often buried in the exchange rate rather than shown as a fee," said Quincy Mathis, Operations Manager of Lowest Fee Bitcoin ATMs. "We are launching with more than 400 machines and one fee, displayed on screen before a customer inserts a single dollar. The name is not subtle. That is deliberate."
What the fee difference means on a $1,000 purchase
On a $1,000 cash purchase, the gap between operators is easy to see:
At a 5% fee, the customer pays $50 and receives $950 in cryptocurrency .
the customer pays $50 and receives $950 in . At the industry's typical 12% to 15%, the customer pays $120 to $150 and receives $850 to $880.
the customer pays $120 to $150 and receives $850 to $880. At a 20% fee, the customer pays $200 and receives $800.
The comparison reflects posted percentage fees before exchange rates and is based on publicly reported U.S. Bitcoin ATM fee ranges. A number of operators apply an additional markup within the exchange rate; Lowest Fee Bitcoin ATMs displays both the fee and the rate on screen before every transaction.
A lower-cost way to send money abroad
The company reports that a growing share of its transactions involve stablecoins, digital tokens pegged one-to-one to the U.S. dollar, which customers use to send money to relatives overseas and, increasingly, which small businesses use to pay suppliers and contractors abroad. A customer inserts cash at the machine, and the recipient receives dollar-pegged funds in their own wallet within minutes, to hold or convert to local currency. No bank account is required to send.
For a customer sending $1,000 a month, annual fees come to about $600 at 5%, roughly $1,440 to $1,800 at typical Bitcoin ATM rates, and $2,400 at 20%.
"Families sending money home are the most price-sensitive customers in this market, and they have been paying its highest rates," said Quincy Mathis. "A 5% fee on a stablecoin transfer that arrives in minutes is a different proposition from what they have been offered."
Limits, verification and how a purchase works
Purchase limits are tiered by verification level. Customers who verify with a phone number can buy up to $2,000 per day. Customers who verify with a government-issued ID and Tax ID can buy up to $50,000 per day.
A purchase takes four steps:
Verify, online in advance or at the machine. Select a cryptocurrency and scan the QR code of your digital wallet . Insert cash. The running total appears on screen as bills are fed in. Review the fee and exchange rate, then confirm. Funds arrive in the wallet within minutes.
With the new online pre-registration, customers who have verified in advance simply enter their phone number at the machine. Pre-registration and a machine locator are available at lowestfeebitcoinatms.com.
Consumer protection and compliance
Lowest Fee Bitcoin ATMs is registered with the U.S. Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) as a money services business, and its machines operate in compliance with federal and state regulations. Customer data is encrypted. Because cryptocurrency transactions cannot be reversed, the company urges consumers to treat any request to pay a government agency, bank, utility, employer or technical-support representative through a Bitcoin ATM as a scam and to walk away.
Availability
Lowest Fee Bitcoin ATMs are operating now at more than 400 locations, with additional phases of the rollout planned. Consumers can find the nearest machine on the company's website. New customers may enter promotional code LOWEST at the machine for 20% off the transaction fee.
